AARP Connects Age-Friendly Communities with Resources to Promote Equity

Mar 3, 2021

AARP’s Equity by Design global dialogue series highlighted critical lessons and opportunities from the pandemic to catalyze action among professionals in the fields that shape the physical housing and communities where we live.

The most recent discussion, titled “Include Age-Friendliness in Other Priorities and Lead Cross-Sector Collaboration,” was shared on the Equity by Design webpage, and included MHAC partners at the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University.

The most recent AARP Livable Community newsletter also included some resource guides and tools from ChangeLab Solutions. Their newest resource is The Planner’s Playbook: A Community-Centered Approach to Improving Health & Equity, which offers guidance, providing resources, concrete steps, and examples for planners who wish to center equity in their planning practice so that their communities promote opportunity and prosperity for all.

The Mass. Healthy Aging Collaborative, with input from various stakeholders and communities, has also developed the Healthy Aging for All Guide. The resource is geared towards helping age-and dementia-friendly community stakeholders to promote conversations and take action to reduce inequity.
