AARP Livable Communities Team Promotes Local Transportation Solutions, Including Massachusetts Examples

Oct 1, 2025

AARP Livable Communities, which promotes resources, tools and examples for age-friendly community efforts, distributed a series of videos that highlight transportation solutions to help older adults get to desired destinations.

Along with examples from Illinois, Texas, Maine, California and Connecticut, a number of practices from Massachusetts were included. Age-Friendly Amesbury adjusted a bus route for senior housing connections and conducted walk audits with UMass-Lowell public health interns. Another community example included Arlington’s age-friendly initiative, which gained select board approval for a council on aging parking sticker program. This allows older adults to park for free and close to the council on aging.

All of these examples from across the country could provide ideas on how age-friendly communities can improve transportation. The full video is available below.
