The AARP Livable Communities team has updated their Walk Audit tool, which can help inform local decision-making by prioritizing areas in need of improvement and educating community members about the importance of street and sidewalk design.
The tool kit publication provides step-by-step instructions and checklists for examining intersections, sidewalks, driver behavior, public safety and more. AARP has included Walk Audit Worksheets – 10 printable, shareable forms and checklists for field taking notes and making observations about a street or area’s safe walkability.
To help age-friendly communities see what’s possible as a result of walk audits, MHAC’s partners at WalkBoston created Age-Friendly Walking resources, which consist of two one-pagers on municipal policies and infrastructure improvements that promote walkability.
