The National Center to Reframe Aging, which is dedicated to ending ageism by advancing an equitable and complete story about aging in America, has released the Advocacy Quick Start Guide offering a comprehensive overview of key principles to help reframe aging through an advocacy lens.
The guide includes examples of messaging to avoid and effective alternatives to elevate your advocacy communications. This can be helpful in advancing state and local policy that supports healthy aging, but can also be useful to age- and dementia friendly community partners working to communicate the importance of such efforts.
This tool comes ahead of Ageism Awareness Day on October 9th. Led by the American Society on Aging (ASA), the event provides an opportunity to draw attention to the existence and impact of ageism in our society. One of the most widespread and socially accepted forms of prejudice, ageism is defined by the World Health Organization as “the stereotypes (how we think), prejudices (how we feel) and discrimination (how we act) towards others or oneself based on age.
ASA is sharing a social media toolkit and fact sheet, along with other resources on their website here.
