Checklist Created to Support Community-Based Dementia Friendly Initiatives

Feb 16, 2022

A  checklist has been created by Dementia Friendly Massachusetts to support a community’s journey and commitment to becoming dementia-friendly, which compliments a list of resources in the state’s Age- and Dementia Friendly Integration Toolkit.

Every community making progress towards becoming dementia friendly should be recognized and celebrated.  Since the Dementia Friendly Massachusetts Initiative began in 2016, communities have received formal recognition for their commitment to becoming dementia friendly. Dementia Friendly Mass. and the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative have worked to align the age- and dementia friendly movements – and one item on the checklist raises awareness about combining a community or region’s dementia friendly work with an age-friendly initiative. Along with its partners at the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, Mass Councils on Aging, UMass-Boston Gerontology Institute and others created a first-in-the-nation toolkit to help communities pursue both age- and dementia friendly efforts.
