Equity in Aging – News, Notes and Events

May 19, 2021

With the launch of Equity in Aging from the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative, AARP Massachusetts and the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts, we will be periodically sharing news, resources and upcoming events on the topic that may be of interest to our network of partners and stakeholders.

The Equity in Aging Committee will be helping to drive the content of these updates as well as our ongoing webinar series, but we welcome submissions from others, which can be emailed to James Fuccione at MHAC.

From the American Society on Aging’s “Generations” publication, this article focuses on the progress of and resistance to LGBT aging rights, as well as what the future may hold.

The CDC is promoting a Special Report on Race, Ethnicity and Alzheimer’s in America  from the Alzheimer’s Association showing people of color face discrimination when seeking health care for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Justice in Aging, the National Center on Law & Elder Rights, and others compiled a list of helpful resources for advocates to use in outreach to better serve AAPI clients during a time when we should be celebrating the resiliency and contributions of AAPI older adults.

May is both Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and Older Americans Month and presents an opportunity to ensure we are better meeting the needs of AAPI older adults.
