The theme of the 2015 conference, Soaring into the Future: Seeking New Horizons in Aging and Philanthropy, brought together experts and stakeholders with innovative approaches to delivering on this agenda.
As we heard throughout our three days in Washington, DC, we couldn’t have wished for a more fitting backdrop than our nation’s capital for our discussions. As we marked the 80th anniversary of the creation of Social Security, and the 50th anniversary of Medicare, Medicaid, and the Older Americans Act, we heard some of the most creative leaders in aging and philanthropy share what they have learned and their vision for the future. In a diverse array of sessions, we explored the best approaches to keep older adults independent and living in their own homes and communities, how to become more effective advocates, how to better use technology to serve older adults—and we even danced! There was much more, of course, both in the sessions and in the valuable time set aside for networking.
