JCHS Launches ‘Housing an Aging Society’ Program

Mar 9, 2022

The Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University (JCHS) has recently launched the Housing an Aging Society (HAS) Program. Building on research conducted on housing and aging over the past eight years, the program will examine the diverse needs of US households headed by someone older than 65, a group that will make up about a third of all US households by 2038.

The HAS Program and research looks to have significant overlap with efforts to create inclusive age- and dementia friendly communities, so MHAC will continue to promote relevant JCHS research and initiatives that can inform local and regional work that supports older adults.

Some of the more recent research on rental housing that includes data on older renters will be presented at an upcoming MHAC Advisory Council meeting.
