MHAC Offers Support Letter for the Affordable Homes Act

Jan 24, 2024

The Massachusetts legislature’s Joint Committee on Housing recently held a public hearing on House Bill 4138, the Affordable Homes Act, where housing advocates and many partners of the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative showed up to support affordable housing options for people of all ages.

The Affordable Homes Act is a comprehensive package of spending, policy and programmatic actions, represents the largest proposed investment in housing in the state’s history while simultaneously striking at the root causes of housing unaffordability and making progress on the state’s climate goals.

The Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative offered a letter of support that focused on several provisions, including those that fund and promote housing for older adults near transit options and amenities, allowing Accessory Dwelling Units by-right statewide, the creation of an Age-Friendly Commission, funding the Home Modification Loan Program and the Mixed Income Housing Fund.
