Resources and Opportunities for LGBTQIA+ Older Adults During Pride Month

Jun 1, 2022

Organizations in the age- and dementia friendly network are celebrating Pride Month in June. Check with your local aging service access point (ASAP), Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and Council on Aging for local opportunities.

These organizations like Ethos, AgeSpan and Elder Services of the Worcester Area (ESWA) all offer support and social opportunities for LGBT+ older adults in their areas. As always, the LGBTQIA+ Aging Project has a wealth of resources and a calendar of in-person and virtual events, including the 24 LGBTQ Community Meal Programs across the state.

Additionally, the Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) recently announced that they are offering a free LGBT and Aging online training. This training orients individuals working with older adults to the language and resources that is free of discrimination and rooted in compassion to better provide comprehensive and quality care for LGBT+ older adults. For more information about the training please contact Allison Staton at Allison.M.Staton@mass.gov

MHAC also encourages our partners to register for the 11th Annual LGBTQ+ Elders Conference (Virtual – Friday June 24th)

This year’s conference is titled “LGBTQ+ Elders in an Ever-Changing World” and will be a virtual one-day event focusing on interdisciplinary practice and community engagement for people working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning + older adults and caregivers.

People looking for alternative resources, services, or community programs to help support their individual aging or caregiving needs are also invited to attend.
