Baker-Polito Administration Announces $5 Million in Awards Through Housing Choice Initiative

The Baker-Polito Administration announced nearly $5 million in awards to 31 communities throughout the Commonwealth through two new grant programs under the Housing Choice Initiative.

The Housing Choice Initiative, introduced by Governor Charlie Baker in December 2017, is a comprehensive effort to support the creation of 135,000 new housing units by 2025 to meet the housing needs of Massachusetts’s families, workforce and residents. The Housing Choice Initiative provides incentives, rewards and technical assistance reform to encourage and empower municipalities to plan and build the diverse housing stock that the Commonwealth needs to continue to thrive.   Continue reading

Nesterly Home-Sharing Platform Expanding Beyond Boston

Nesterly, an inter-generational online matching service for older adults and college students is expanding their service for home-sharing and looking for local partners.

After a successful pilot with the City of Boston, Nesterly is expanding their service to the greater Boston area to include communities like Medford, Somerville, Newton and others. Specifically, Nesterly is looking to identify “hosts” to create listings for spare rooms using their simple signup process and match with an already strong number of students that have created profiles. Governor’s Housing Choice Designation Awarded to 67 Communities

The Baker-Polito Administration announced two milestones for communities in Massachusetts under their Housing Choice Initiative, a comprehensive new effort to create 135,000 new housing units by 2025.

The initiative, announced in December 2017, includes a new set of incentives and rewards for municipalities committed to sustainable housing growth in their communities. Lt. Governor Karyn Polito announced the designation of 67 communities as Housing Choice Communities, and, in partnership with MassHousing, awarded Planning for Housing Production technical assistance grants to 15 municipalities. Both announcements will support communities in their efforts to substantially increase housing production across the Commonwealth.  Continue reading
