The Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative is pleased to promote the following events that support and promote inclusive age- and dementia friendly communities.
- What Comes Next? Moving from Ageism Awareness to Action, hosted by the National Center to Reframe Aging at GSA – 10:00 am on October 15 (virtual)
Ageism Awareness Day creates an important opportunity to recognize ageism and invite others into the work of building a more age-inclusive society. How can we build on that awareness every day?
Join the National Center to Reframe Aging for a conversation with colleagues who have applied the principles to reframe aging in their work. They will share how the principles strengthened their awareness of ageism, helped them see familiar messages and practices differently, and inspired them to take action.
Through their stories, we will explore how awareness can become a starting point for changing perspectives, communication, and practices. Participants will leave with ideas for using the principles to reframe aging to take the next step in their own organizations and communities.
Info and registration is available here.
- Technology Learning Collaborative for Healthy Aging, co-hosted by Executive Office of Aging & Independence (AGE) and MHAC – 10:30 am on October 27 (virtual)
Join the Technology Learning Collaborative for Healthy Aging, cohosted by the Executive Office of Aging and Independence (AGE) and the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative, for our next quarterly meeting on 10/27! This is a community forum to share updates on best practices, learn about funding opportunities, and form partnerships to advance digital equity for older adults.
Our meeting will feature presentations from aging service access points delivering digital navigation and devices under the Mass Broadband Institute’s Digital Equity Partnerships Grant Program. As that program winds down, some of the partners involved will share their work and the impact in the communities they serve.
Registration is available here.
- Navigating End-of-Life Planning and Discussions as a Family Caregiver, hosted by AGE – 12:00 – 1:00 pm on October 29th
Talking about end-of-life wishes with a loved one is one of the hardest, and most important, things a family caregiver can do. Yet many caregivers do not know where to begin, what to say, or how to prepare before a crisis occurs. In this webinar, we will explore both the emotional and practical sides of end-of-life planning with two experts who will help caregivers feel more prepared, informed, and supported.
Lisa Pahl, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Advanced Practice Hospice and Palliative Social Worker, will share guidance on how to start meaningful conversations about end-of-life wishes, including how to make these conversations feel less scary or overwhelming.
Priscilla M. Ross, from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Aging & Independence, will provide an overview of the key legal and planning tools every Massachusetts caregiver should know about, such as Health Care Proxies and Personal Directives. She will also explain why it’s important to have these documents in place before a crisis. Whether you are just beginning to think about these topics or are already in the middle of having these difficult conversations, this webinar will provide knowledge, language, and tools to help you take the next step.
