Upcoming Training, Funding and Support Opportunities for Age/Dementia Friendly Stakeholders

In addition to some timely funding opportunities, the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative is sharing some other upcoming virtual training and support opportunities.

MassDOT Shared Winter Streets and Spaces (deadline extended to March 5th)

MassDOT has extended the final round deadline for the Shared Winter Streets and Spaces Program. MHAC joined with partners at WalkBoston and the Executive Office of Elder Affairs to collect and create resources and guides aimed at helping communities create age-friendly winter spaces.

Housing Choice Designation – application due 3/11 @ 3:00 pm

The Housing Choice Designation is designed to be simple, flexible and achievable for municipalities. There are a total of 74 communities that have achieved the designation. They are able to take advantage of new financial resources, including exclusive access to the Housing Choice Community Capital Grants, and preferential treatment for many state grant and capital funding programs, including State Revolving Fund for Water and Sewer infrastructure, MassWorks, Complete Streets, MassDOT capital projects, and PARC and LAND grants.

The application to qualify as a Housing Choice Community is open until 3:00 p.m. March 11, 2021. The online application form can be accessed here. This designation lasts for two years and is a key component of the Housing Choice Initiative. 

Driver Training on Providing Dementia Friendly Transportation

MCOA, MassMobility, and the Alzheimer’s Association are pleased to announce a free, virtual training session for drivers about how to assist passengers who are living with dementia on Wednesday, March 3 from 2-3:30pm OR Tuesday, March 9 from 10-11:30am (For your convenience, we are offering this session at two different times. Register for whichever better fits your schedule.)

US Census Bureau Data Summits

The U.S. Census Bureau is planning Data Summits for the spring, where virtually available statistical data products can be showcased and the Bureau can demonstrate how the data is relevant to their partners’ mission and goals through a hands-on-model.

The application period for the 2021 AARP Community Challenge is now open and will provide small grants to fund quick-action projects that can help communities become more livable for people of all ages.
