The Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) recently launched a new webpage, “How to Start Looking for Affordable Housing in Massachusetts,” which aims to be a step-by-step guide on how to look for affordable rental housing.
The guide includes the following sections and steps:
- ✅ Step 1: Know the 3 Main Types of Affordable Rental Housing
- ✅ Step 2: Understand What Makes You Eligible
- ✅ Step 3: Start Searching
- ✅ Step 4: Apply to Private Affordable Housing – Lotteries and Waitlists
- ✅ Step 5: Be Patient and Keep Track
- ✅ Step 6: Get Help If You Need It
Each “step” includes background information and, in most cases, external links to other sites with deeper background or information on housing eligibility and applications.
That page is part of a revamped website under EOHLC titled “Housing Assistance for Massachusetts Residents.” This broader site is an overview of the housing, home repair and home energy help programs available to homeowners, renters and landlords. MHAC encourages communities working to become more age- and dementia friendly and also focused on housing issues to promote and reference these resources.
