In recognition of Pride Month, the Mass. Healthy Aging Collaborative is promoting a guide from SAGE – an organization working to improve the lives of LGBT+ older people – that is intended to increase inclusion of older adults in Pride events.
The goals of Welcome to Pride are: to learn about effective age-friendly features that Pride organizers and elder
advocates currently have in place; to share these best practices; and to secure commitments from Pride organizers
to maintain or increase the number of age-friendly features of their events.

- LGBTQ+ ELDERS IN AN EVER-CHANGING WORLD (June 15th, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm – virtual)
A virtual one-day conference focusing on interdisciplinary practice and community engagement
for people working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning + older adults and
caregivers. LGBTQ+ people interested in their individual aging or caregiving needs are also invited to attend.

- Medicare Fraud Prevention Week (June 5-11)
Every June, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and its Senior Medicare Patrol Resource Center lead the nation’s Medicare Fraud Prevention Week (MFPW) observance. Established in 2022, this week focuses on raising awareness of actions everyone can take to help prevent Medicare fraud.
Medicare loses an estimated $60 billion each year due to fraud, errors, and abuse. Every day, issues related to these problems affect people across the country, often costing them time, money, and peace of mind. That’s why spreading the word about simple ways for beneficiaries, caregivers, and others to protect themselves and their loved ones is so important.

- MHAC Quarterly Statewide Network Meeting, June 15th 10 am to noon
Join us for our quarterly statewide network meeting to hear updates about the age- and dementia friendly movement in Massachusetts. We will feature presentations on Age Friendly Rhode Island’s vehicle sharing pilot in partnership with Rhode Island Public Transit Authority as well as the updated Elder index from the UMass-Boston Gerontology Institute. - Alzheimer’s Association of MA/NH Free Training for First Responders
Communities working to become more age- and dementia friendly have an opportunity to connect local public safety personnel to free training and education from the Alzheimer’s Association of MA/NH.
The goal of this training is to educate Fire and EMS personnel on the impact that Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias may have on individuals and communities. This program has been developed specifically for Fire and EMS. Strategies acquired from this training will provide an understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias, and will help personnel optimize the effectiveness of responding during interventions with persons living with dementia, and their families.
