Brandeis University Hosting Healthy Aging Conference

Aug 10, 2017

The Brandeis Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (BOLLI) will host Adventures in Creative Retirement at Brandeis University on Sept. 9, 2017 with a focus on healthy aging and aging in community.

The all-day conference brings together dynamic thought leadership on issues facing a generation of Americans approaching retirement. Conference content will be grounded in research and evidence-based scholarship, offering participants different pathways for becoming engaged with three important themes within their lives: health and wellness, housing, and community.

“Each day, nearly 10,000 baby boomers leave the workforce with unprecedented prospects for longevity and vitality,” said BOLLI Director Avi Bernstein. “We want to empower this group to think creatively about their retirement and take ownership over their life choices.”

Columbia University’s Ruth Finkelstein and former Chief Technology Officer for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Susannah Fox will headline the event. Finkelstein’s keynote is called “Growing Older in the American City: What We Have Now, and What We Ought to Fight Like Hell to Get by 2030.” Fox’s keynote is called “The Innovative Retirement Residence of the Future: the Wired World, Robotics, and Home Health Care Delivery.”

Additional breakout sessions and panels will include the following topics:

  • Working in Retirement: The Gig Economy and You
  • Healthy Aging in Practice: The Benefits of Tai Chi
  • The Internet of Things in the Boomer Home of the Future
  • Options in Healthy Aging Home Design
  • A Volunteer Career: Giving Back and Getting Even More
  • The Healthy Aging City: The Best Places to Live

Through a partnership with Uber, conference attendees can receive discounted transportation to Waltham. First-time riders will enjoy a $20 discount on their initial ride to campus. Existing customers will receive a 20 percent reduction of their conference ride in both directions.

The conference’s exhibit hall will include representatives from Encore Boston Network, Hebrew Senior Life, ReServe New England and Lasell Village.

Adventures in Creative Retirement will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Brandeis University. Visit www.brandeis.edu/rabb/creative-retirement.html for more information on ticket pricing, registration and scheduling.
