A new volunteering platform is launching in Greater Boston to provide another avenue for prospective volunteers to connect with organizations that need their help.
Connect for Good is free to both volunteers and nonprofits and is designed to provide users with a variety of intuitive entry points to discover nonprofit organizations that match the causes and types of activities they want to pursue.
Connect for Good is unique in helping people personalize their volunteer search. A menu of options, including age of volunteer, type of work, training options, time of day and frequency, makes it ideal for older adults. It also identifies family-friendly options for older people who want to introduce their grandchildren to community service or join in intergenerational volunteering. Age-friendly communities will find this platform useful in encouraging civic participation.
Any nonprofit in the Greater Boston area that engages volunteers can be listed on the site as long as they agree to meet the site’s built-in quality standards.
Inspiring Service, the nonprofit technology firm that developed Connect for Good, partnered with United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, Encore Boston Network, and Empower Success Corps on creating the resource.
Connect for Good currently includes more than 1200 volunteer opportunities from over 300 nonprofits in the Greater Boston area. This number will continue to grow in coming months and plans are to expand the platform to reach other parts of the state. But any nonprofit wishing to list its volunteer opportunities on Connect for Good can do so by completing an input form available on the website.
Other options are available to help connect volunteers with opportunities like AARP’s “Create the Good” and Volunteermatch.org.
