One of the many special aspects of memory cafés is that they provide a way for friends to spend time together.
Keeping friendships strong nurtures everyone: the person living with dementia, their primary care partner(s), and the friend. Yet dementia robs so many people of their friendships. I have found that many friends have no idea how to spend time with their friend with dementia, and they really appreciate a concrete suggestion like going to a café together.
Please read this blog post about Abbe and Judy, guests at the JF&CS Memory Café who have been friends for more than 30 years.
