Along with partners from AARP Massachusetts, the Public Health Institute of Western Mass., and UMass-Lowell, the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative (MHAC) is launching Equity in Aging, a statewide workgroup and webinar series that will inform and strengthen our collective efforts to create inclusive, age- and dementia friendly communities.
The kickoff to this initiative will be a webinar on April 8th with presentations on current community-based, statewide, and national efforts that promote and support diverse older adults. The workgroup will continue a legacy that began with the Multicultural Coalition on Aging (MCA) and continued when that initiative aligned with the Collaborative to create the MCA@MHAC.
MCA@MHAC was essential in creating MHAC’s Healthy Aging for All Guide that aims to embed equity, access, and inclusion in age- and dementia friendly efforts. The current version of the guide is available for use and is also being piloted in three Massachusetts communities/regions with support from the Healthy Aging Fund: Framingham, Lowell and the Pioneer Valley. MHAC is hopeful that Equity in Aging will help to refine and strengthen the guide, but also to establish a more collective awareness and action from the organization’s cross-sector network.
