MassDOT Releases Update to State’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan

Jun 23, 2021

As members of the state’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Board (MABPAB), the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative along with our partners at WalkBoston had an opportunity to provide initial input to an update to MassDOT’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Plan.

The Bicycle Transportation Plan and Pedestrian Transportation Plan explain how Massachusetts will work to increase the percentage of everyday trips made by biking and walking, while working to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries at the same time.

As part of the plan update, MassDOT released Engineering Directive E-20-001 in 2020 to update design criteria to help ensure that people of all ages and abilities are afforded the opportunity for safe travel regardless of mode in the design of future projects.

More broadly, the plan has a focus on pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and showcases many of the projects that help make facilities and infrastructure more accessible.
