The Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative joined many partners, including AARP Massachusetts, CHAPA, MHP, Public Health Institute of Western Mass. and several regional planning agencies in signing on to a letter led by Abundant Housing MA in support of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).
Specifically, the organizations are encouraging state representatives to advance the Affordable Homes Act with a provision that would allow ADUs by-right across Massachusetts.
Supported by AARP through advocacy and a number of resources for age-friendly communities, ADUs present a solution that is desirable for people of all ages. As the sign-on letter states, “ADUs are often lived in by seniors who want to downsize, while still remaining in their communities, young people who want to live in the neighborhoods where they grew up, and individuals with disabilities who desire independent and accessible living.”
For those interested in contacting their state representative to voice support for ADUs in the Affordable Homes Act, visit WhereDoIVoteMA to enter your street address. You can then scroll down to “state representative” and click on the name to view their contact information. If you choose to email, feel free to pass along the Abundant Housing MA Letter here and include that you urge their support.
