The Mass. Healthy Aging Collaborative invites you to check out the following upcoming events and trainings that help promote inclusive age-and dementia friendly communities.

  • Dementia Friends Champion training on Wednesday, June 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Dementia Friends is a global public awareness program that helps everyone in a community to learn a little about dementia and how it affects people, and the simple things that we can all do to make a difference. To learn more, watch this 2-minute video.

This training is free and open to the public. During this training, you will take part in a Dementia Friends information session, and be counted as a part of the growing number of “Dementia Friends” worldwide. This training will also equip you with the knowledge and materials needed to become a volunteer “Champion,” which means that you will be able to facilitate your own virtual or in-person Dementia Friends Information Session with members of your community. High school students and adults are able to become trained as Champions.

The training will be held in English. However, Dementia Friends Massachusetts materials are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole and Russian, for those who are multilingual and would like to lead an information session in one of these languages.

Over the last year, many of us have struggled to maintain healthy habits as we have shifted our lives to socially isolate. As we transition into new times, it’s important to create new habits and take the time to care for ourselves. We hope that these workshops will inspire you to take initiative of your health by implementing small changes that can have a big impact. Each workshop will feature expert speakers, short activities, opportunities to meet new people and ask questions.

These events are free to any LGBTQ+ identifying adult. You are welcome to register for one event, or as many as you are able to attend.

The Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative’s Equity in Aging Committee, including AARP Massachusetts and the Public Health Institute of Western MA, is co-hosting a series of webinars with the Diverse Elders Coalition titled, “Caring for Those who Care.”

Caring For Those Who Care” is a dynamic curriculum that provides insights into the experiences, needs and preferred service delivery methods for diverse family caregivers. This introductory session will engage social service providers and healthcare professionals on how to best support caregivers of African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian-American, Southeast Asian-American, LGBT, and American Indian/Alaska Native identities. Learn new tips for building relationships, programming, and resources for these diverse caregivers and the elders they care for.
