Communities across Massachusetts have established Memory Cafes, which are free social programs for people living with dementia and those who care about them.
An updated version of the Memory Cafe Toolkit for those starting or maintaining these programs is now live at www.jfcsboston.org/MemoryCafeToolkit (English) and at www.jfcsboston.org/GuiaCafeDeMemoria (Spanish).
For those familiar with accessing the old version, these are the same URLs, so you don’t need to change any of your links.
The new versions includes some updates throughout, and then a new section about inclusiveness. It provides examples of what various Massachusetts cafés are doing to serve café guests with specific needs, such as guests with younger onset dementia, as well as guests with hearing loss, or intellectual/developmental disabilities. It also discusses ways to make cafés inclusive and homey for people of varied linguistic/cultural backgrounds, and LGTBQIA+ guests.
