The Arts and Aging: Building the Science

The National Academy of Sciences held a workshop in 2012 to identify research gaps and opportunities to foster greater investment in promising arts-related research that can seed interventions to improve quality of life for older adults. This report highlights themes expressed at the workshop and identifies deficiencies in current research and opportunities for moving forward.

The Arts and Human Development

In 2011, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) hosted a convening to showcase studies and evidence-based programs that have identified outcomes from arts interventions. The resulting white paper proposes a framework for long-term collaboration among the NEA, HHS, and other federal agencies to build capacity for future research and evidence-sharing about the arts’ role in human development.
