AARP Releases 2019 ‘Dangerous by Design’ Report

The 2019 Dangerous by Design report ranks states and metropolitan areas throughout the United States according to how dangerous the roadways are for pedestrians.

Published by Smart Growth America and the National Complete Streets Coalition, with support from AARP, the American Society of Landscape Architects and the consulting firm of Nelson\Nygaard, the report’s Pedestrian Danger Index measures how dangerous it is for people to walk based on the number of people struck and killed by drivers while walking. MassTrails Program Launched at MassDOT ‘Moving Together’ Conference

MassTrails seeks to expand and connect the Commonwealth’s networks of off-road, shared-use pathways and recreational trails for all users across Massachusetts by providing matching grants, technical assistance and resources to individuals, municipalities, non-profits, and other public entities to design, construct, and maintain high quality Massachusetts trails. City of Salem Completes Shuttle Feasibility Study

The Friends of the Salem Council on Aging, the City of Salem and its consultant, TransAction Associates, have completed a feasibility study of an intra-city shuttle. The concept of a shuttle is an important action step in the implementation of the City’s landmark Salem For All Ages Action Plan. The study was funded by a Tufts Health Plan Foundation grant that was awarded to the Friends of the Salem Council on Aging. A working group of over twenty stakeholders helped guide the study. MassDOT Seeking Comments on “Focus40” Investment Plan

MassDOT Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack and MBTA General Manager Luis Ramírez announced the release for public comment of a draft of Focus40: The 2040 Investment Plan for the MBTA. MassDOT and the MBTA are seeking feedback on all aspects of the Plan prior to its final release in the autumn. The public comment period will be open through September 21, 2018. A public feedback form is available at mbtafocus40.com.

New Study Available on Transportation Options for MA Older Adults

With the support of the Tufts Health Plan Foundation, UMass-Boston’s Gerontology Institute created a study of transportation options for older adults across Massachusetts, which will serve as a critical tool for aiding communities seeking to become Age- and Dementia Friendly.

This work was done to support the Governor’s Council to Address Aging and specifically a subcommittee of that group charged with bringing recommendations on transportation. Continue reading
