MassDOT Announces State Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

Transportation Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack recently joined Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver, members of the Massachusetts Legislature, local officials, and transportation advocates at a groundbreaking event in Natick to release the State Bicycle Transportation Plan and State Pedestrian Transportation Plan and to celebrate the start of construction on the latest segment of the Cochituate Rail Trail.

MassMobility Offering Guidance on Helping Older Adults to Find and Use Transportation Options

Staff of Councils on Aging (COAs), Aging Service Access Points (ASAPs), and other aging services providers are invited to a presentation on tools to help older adults find and use local transportation options, as well as strategies organizations can use to fill gaps in the transportation network.

The presentation will be offered by MassMobility, an initiative of the state Executive Office of Health and Human Services. Continue reading

MassTrails Grants Awarded to 71 Projects Across Mass.

Continuing efforts to support the state’s vast network of trails, the Baker-Polito Administration  announced $5 million in MassTrails Grants to 71 projects throughout the Commonwealth. The grants will provide assistance for the construction, maintenance, and improvements for a variety of public trails throughout the state trails system, such as hiking trails, bikeways, and shared-use paths. The announcement was made by Lieutenant Governor Polito during an event in Lowell. Continue reading

Age-Friendly Funding Alert: Community Transit Grant Program

The MassDOT Transit Unit has announced that the FY2020 Community Transit Grant Program Application Cycle is scheduled to open in May 2019.

The Community Transit Grant Program is MassDOT’s annual competitive grant program to distribute Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5310: Enhanced Mobility of Seniors & Individuals with Disabilities funds, and State Mobility Assistance Program funds. MassDOT, MBTA Announcing Pilot and Partnerships to Support More Wheelchair-Accessible Vehicles

MassDOT and the MBTA are announcing a one-year pilot program that will begin today, Monday, April 1, 2019, that provides financial incentives to transportation network companies (TNCs) in an effort to increase availability of wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs). During the pilot program, Uber and Lyft will receive a subsidy on a per-hour basis for every hour that wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available for use. Continue reading
